Go to www.dmtvarchives.com to enjoy a special DVD release from the Television Archives series – ‘Recoil Selected’.
Originally intended as a web-only feature in support of Recoil’s ‘Selected’ album, the project evolved as more TV footage became available, and the TV Archives team were able to create something unique – a kind of Recoil retrospective in Alan’s own words.
Says Alan: “Over the years since the Recoil project began, I have conducted many interviews all over the world for various TV shows and other outlets. I hope you enjoy this collection of appearances which spans 20 years and documents the many changes along the way. From my own point of view, it’s perfect to have these rarities gathered in one place.”
These clips follow the story from the most recent ‘Selected Events’ report from Bratislava only 3 weeks ago, all the way back to the promotion of ‘Faith Healer’/'Bloodline’ in March 1992. Though the footage quality varies we are happy that you, the fans, preserved your old VHS tapes and shared them. Further, all teasers commissioned for the ‘Selected’ album and tour promotion have been added, as well as additional bonus material.
For full details and download links, go to www.dmtvarchives.com. Cover artwork and special insert booklet is available there as well, and there is also a new ‘solo’ section at the site to cater for possible future releases.

End of the Recoil Tour, with a special cinematic event for the last concert

For the very final presentation of ‘A Strange Hour’, Alan and the Recoil team have decided to install an extra large, fully professional cinema screen & projector at the newly-renovated venue ‘Szikra’ in Budapest. The screen will measure a giant 8 x 5 meters and will cover the entire stage area. The performance is also planned to be filmed using multi-cameras and the latest high-definition technology in order to capture the event in its full glory. How and when ‘A Strange Hour’ will be released is yet to be determined but you can be sure that at some stage, you will see the culmination of a year’s work made available on some kind of DVD/Blu-ray format, perhaps as part documentary or maybe as a concert film.
There are still a few tickets available for this final show on Saturday – if you’re nearby and the snow doesn’t get you, try to come along and be a part of this unique one-off spectacle. We expect ‘A Strange Hour’ to look and sound particularly special on this evening.
Mátyás Milkovics from Hungarian band Neo will also be joining the event to play an acoustic set, and later Alan, Paul and the whole team will be around to celebrate the end of the tour with the fans, and there will various DJs keeping the evening going until late. DO NOT miss this one!
A message from Alan: “It’s been an incredible year with many many ups and only a couple of minor ‘downs’ due to some travel chaos. Without fail, audiences have been warm and appreciative everywhere. To get out there again and put so many faces to names has been a real highlight – much more enjoyable than I could ever have imagined. Thank you so much for all the encouragement and good vibes – it’s been emotional. Let’s hope we can do it again soon.”

the end of Recoil Tour - final dates in Europe / La fin de la tournée Recoil , les dernières dates

Don’t miss the very last two shows of Recoil’s ‘Selected Events 2010′ tour coming up next weekend. We nearly missed a show ourselves on Monday when snow hit the roads hard and extended what should have been a quick drive from Berlin to Warsaw into a 14-hour marathon! Alan and the team eventually crawled in at 10pm, set up the gear without a soundcheck in front of a good-natured and expectant crowd, and then proceeded to perform immediately with (luckily) only a few minor hitches. We’re happy to say that those who braved minus 10 degrees to come out were rewarded & warmed by the end of the night, with everyone trudging home happily in the snow at around 3am.
In the light of this early Eastern European freeze, Recoil will be arriving in Bratislava & Budapest with plenty of time to spare in order to fulfil the very last two engagements, followed by a party in Prague to celebrate what has been a fantastic year presenting ‘A Strange Hour’ in all corners of the globe. There are still a few tickets available so try to make it along. In Bratislava, we will be joined by special guests The Autumnist – brainchild of Vlado Durajka.

Alan Wilder update Argentina

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – extra date in WARSAW / Poland

Due to demand, another event has been added to the final Euro leg of Recoil’s ‘Selected Events’ tour. Poland has been asking for another show for some time now following the great evening back in April in Lodz. This time, ‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented in Warsaw at Progresja on 29th November.
Architect will also be appearing on the bill.
Says Alan: “The presentation has been updated since the last time we played in Poland. We added some new films and mashed up Recoil/DM versions for the US and South American leg which have gone down really well. Daniel Myer has also been slipping in some glitched up, Myer-style DM and Nitzer Ebb beats into his live set. You never quite know what he is going to come up with each night!”
Details below:
Date : 29.11.2010

‘Selected Events’ Cordoba - Argentina

Due to reasons which were completely out of our control, the Cordoba event in Argentina was unable to go ahead yesterday. Rumour has it that the local promoters failed to get the proper permissions from local authourites to clear the event in advance, and the police turned up to shut it down before it even got underway. The engagement was due to be held as a mini festival including three separate tents in an outdoor location. Recoil was scheduled to headline in the main tent. Our crew arrived in Cordoba in plenty of time but got word that the show was experiencing difficulties at 10pm when we were still waiting to set up our projection system and conduct a soundcheck. 2000-3000 people were expected to attend and we don’t have information at this time about how refunds will be handled.
Says Alan: “I’m sure the fog will clear over the next days and we will get a full explanation of what happened. I just hope no fans will hold Recoil responsible in any way because we were in Cordoba and ready to play. I had already held a press conference in anticipation at the hotel in town, and we all sat in the lobby waiting to go to the venue when we heard the news that the show was in trouble. The crowds so far in Santiago, Buenos Aires and Rosario have been nothing short of incredible. It has been so uplifting to perform to such enthusiastic and appreciative people and Paul & I are naturally very disappointed to not be able to fulfil the Cordoba date. It is not altogether surprising that something like this might happen along the way – whatever people may think, South American countries do have a reputation for chaos and we have experienced plenty of that so far on this leg, including wasted appointments at embassies, travel delays, lost baggage, road strikes, corrupt authorities, equipment troubles and so on. I try to rise above it and am mainly philosophical because the warmth of the people makes up for the misgivings of the bureaucracy. I am just saddened that, having come so far and after 25 years, we got so close and yet so far away from playing to the fans that bought the tickets. If something can be rearranged, then it will be done. Our sincere apologies to the Cordobans.”
We know it’s a different country but there are still a few tickets left for the next event in São Paulo at Inferno Club on November 10th – we are really looking forward to visiting Brazil (assuming they let us in!).

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – RECOIL / MASSIVE ATTACK !

We have some VERY exciting news – Recoil’s show in Bogota, Colombia will now be a late performance, as part of an official Recoil/Massive Attack event.
This one-off happening will now take place at the changed venue Antiguo Siam and is designed to celebrate both bands being in the same city on the same evening. The event has been officially sanctioned by both artists and promises to be a great combination. Massive Attack will be playing earlier at Coliseo El Campin as part of their Heligoland tour, and that performance will be followed by Recoil’s later to allow everyone to come along and enjoy both bands on the same evening!

Recoil’s show will be everything that it should be but the event will also act as the after-party for Massive Attack – a perfect opportunity for fans of both to get together in celebration. We very much hope that Robert Del Naja, Grant Marshall and the rest of their touring band will be taking part.

As with the Gary Numan double bill in Chicago, rather than detract from each other’s crowd, we have worked together with the Massive Attack team to ensure that anyone wishing to attend both events will be able to do so.

Says Alan : “I’m even hoping to see their set myself before heading off to play after. Obviously Massive Attack’s audience is very similar to Recoil’s and we wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on this unique possibility.”

All the details are below:

‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented in Bogota at Antiguo Siam on November 12th – and there will be significant ticket discounts for attendees of both shows.

New Recoil release available today : ‘Want’ – the Architect mixes

Following the release earlier this year of ‘Selected’, Alan decided to commission some extra remixes which are now being made available by Mute absolutely free!
3 new versions of ‘Want’ (featuring Nicole Blackman) have been expertly put together by Architect to form part of a special download package released today. Full details below.
Architect is the creation of German mastermind Daniel Myer. In 1993 he founded the legendary electro-industrial/EBM project Haujobb. Since then he has made a name for himself within the electronic scene and initiated many other projects such as HMB, Newt and Destroid. Since 2007, he has been a permanent member of the renowned Swedish EBM band Covenant. Created in 1998, Architect and can be easily described as the most fascinating of Daniel’s projects. Focusing primarily on minimal techno, powerfully distorted sequences and razor-sharp breakbeats, he manages to create a unique hybrid of electronica with smooth ambient soundscapes, rendering the results suitable for both listening and dancing.
Says Alan: “Having embarked on a series of live events earlier this year, I found myself re-visiting and re-working many of my favourite pieces. With this in mind, I also kept my ears open for interesting people to contribute to this process and quite early into the tour was introduced to Daniel and his array of projects. I spent many an hour in various hotel gyms, headphones connected, being strangely hypnotised by his work – in particular from Architect’s recent album ‘Consume Adapt Create’. I subsequently asked if he would be interested in taking part in some of the events we had planned and he and I struck up an instant rapport. His approach seemed to fit perfectly with what Paul Kendall and I were doing in the live arena, and that collaboration is planned to continue during Recoil’s forthcoming North American tour. The inevitable result of this new-found friendship elicited this set of recently-completed remixes of ‘Want’. No real guidelines were given – just that Daniel should do his thing to this track as it had never been remixed before and was crying out for some alternative treatments. I hope you enjoy these three variations on the theme and, like me, will appreciate the use of surgically placed sounds, haunting ambience and complex intelligent arrangements.”
Also included in the package: a new film to accompany Daniel’s main mix, using time-lapse photography and directed by the brilliant Dmitry Semenov. Dima’s captivating short film features Daria Kuznetsova & Sergey Kochetkov.
Another extra is a downloadable photographic book, shot during Recoil’s European tour between April & May 2010 by Ivana Dvorska. There is also an additional bonus mix of ‘Jezebel’ by Ehron VonAllen.
We hope you really enjoy this special pre-tour bonus release, and don’t forget, if you want to catch Recoil & Architect in North & South America over the coming weeks go to: http://blog.recoil.co.uk/events/

19/08/10 - 'Selected Events' 2010 - Dallas and Hamilton shows added!

More dates have been added into Recoil’s US tour. We couldn’t leave Texas out so ‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented in Dallas at Trees on Saturday 16th October. We hear that the ‘Trees’ venue is legendary and, following the great event in Austin last spring, Alan is very happy to be coming back to the Lone Star State. In fact, this will be the opening US event on the tour so come along and be the first to witness the new additions to Recoil’s presentation.
Architect will also be appearing and there will almost certainly be a special Recoil/DM party afterwards (Alan will attend) which your show ticket will allow you access to. So bring along your CDs and vinyl if you want to get those signed – more details on that very soon.

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – Chicago

Following Recoil’s recent US leg tour announcement, we are excited to add another special date – this time at The Metro in Chicago on 26th October. ‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented at a unique event – a double bill featuring both Recoil and Gary Numan! Gary and his band will be performing his classic ‘The Pleasure Principle’ album in full. Architect are also on the bill for this show.

With layers of analogue synthesizers and futuristic, dystopian lyrics, The Pleasure Principle’s 10 songs are given one-word titles; not least the massive hit single ‘Cars’, arguably the first British electro song to dent the US charts. ‘The Pleasure Principle’ is Gary Numan’s most commercially successful album and is a striking turnaround from the guitar-powered, Joy Division-like post punk of his original band Tubeway Army. Aside from bass, percussion and some strings, every instrument is electronic. For more information on the Gary Numan Pleasure Principle 2010 Tour please visit www.numan.co.uk
Tickets are available from the following outlet (www.etix.com) and are already on sale. We strongly urge that you get yours soon as we expect they will be snapped up fast!

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – new dates in USA, Canada and South America « Shunt – The Official Recoil / Alan Wilder Blog

After the hugely enjoyable and successful jaunt around Europe, we are delighted to be able to confirm the first series of dates for the next leg of Recoil’s ‘Selected Events’ tour 2010. One or two more cities in South America are still to be added, and more North American/Canadian dates will follow shortly too.

Recoil recently played a show in Mexico City and if the response there is anything to go by, this upcoming leg of the tour is going to be a something special. Says Alan “The Mexicans didn’t disappoint, and I’ve been receiving innumerable requests from Argentinians, Chileans, Peruvians, Brazilians and many others in that part of the world for years now, pleading for a visit. I’m really flattered to be asked of course, and looking forward to it finally happening – I know we will have an incredible time in South America. Shunt – The Official Recoil / Alan Wilder Blog

RECOIL / GARY NUMAN DOUBLE BILL

BO
: Architect a l'air vraiment bien.

PK
: Oui, c'est le cas.

BO

BO
: C'était pour 'Unsound Methods' ?

PK

BO
: Il y a quelques mois, j'ai écouté 'Faulty Caress' et je me suis dit " Ca me dit quelque chose ".

PK

View all the pictures

PK

BO
& GB : On espère bien !
